ABOUT THE EVENT
We have a once in a generation opportunity to restore local stewardship of the waterways of Maui.
On the ballot on November 8, Maui residents have the opportunity to vote yes on Charter Ammendment 12, which gives stewardship of the waterways to a local Water Council, and out of the control of offshore corporations.
Let's gather in song and prayer for the waters of Maui and the world.
This is a fundraising event for Ola I ka Wai, to raise awareness for the vote on November 8.
$22-33 Suggested Donation. No one turned away for lack of funds. All donations go to Ola I Ka Wai.
Our fundraising goal is a minimum of $500. That could be 15 of us donating $35, or 30 of us donating $20... so possible! Choose your contribution, we can do it:)
We will gather at Mohala begining at 5:30pm and singing into the evening around the fire.
Bring waters from the ocean, local streams or other sources for our water altar, and any other altar pieces that represent your love for the water and the blessings it brings to your life.
Jennifer Ruth will host the song and prayer circle, creating space for a co-creative circle of song, prayer and wisdom sharing.
Aya Kamanakai will share a water chant and offer education and wisdom about the water council, charter ammendment #12, and current initiatives around water stewardship.
We will be blessed with the support of additional local wisdom keepers and song carriers who will share talk story and song with our circle.
If you carry a water song, prayer, or chant, please bring it with the intention to teach it to the group. There will be open space for any songleaders present to share their voice and song.
For those desiring to share a song, oral tradition teaching is ideal, but for longer songs that would be supported by lyric sheets for teaching, email lyrics/translation to jennruthschmidt@gmail.com in advance.
Please carpoool if possible!
If you prefer to make a donation via cash or check, select manual payment and bring your donation to the event.
